Chocolate Pudding

My light sponge pudding with a rich chocolate flavored sauce for sure will become your family’s favorite chocolate dessert. If you love traditional home-style desserts you will love this easy dessert recipe of the Chocolate Sponge Pudding.

Ingredients

Unsalted melted butter, to grease
150g (1 cup) self-raising flour
100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar
2 tbs cocoa powder
125ml (1/2 cup) milk
50g unsalted butter, melted
1 egg, lightly whisked
Thickened cream, to serve

Chocolate sauce

155g (3/4 cup, firmly packed) brown sugar
2 tbs cocoa powder
375ml (1 1/2 cups) boiling water

Method

Preheat your oven to 200C (180C fan-forced). Brush a 1.5L (6-cup) capacity ovenproof dish with melted butter to lightly grease.

Combine the flour, sugar and cocoa powder in a medium bowl. Make a well in the centre. Combine the milk, butter and egg in a large bowl. Carefully pour the milk and egg mixture into the flour mixture and stir until well combined. Pour mixture into a greased 1,5 liter (4-6 cups) oven proof baking dish and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon.

To make the chocolate sauce, sift the sugar and cocoa powder into a bowl. Sprinkle over the pudding mixture in the dish. Gently pour the boiling water over the cocoa mixture.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden and a skewer inserted halfway into the centre comes out clean. Time may vary depending on your oven. Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
Serve warm with a dollop of cream or ice cream if desired.

Ps. From this amount you can make 4 individual serves putting an even amount of mixture into 4 greased 1-cup capacity ramekins. Bake in a preheated to 200C oven for 20-25 min.
